Kyle wanted to take some time off from work and help my Dad on the farm. He loves farming. Working out in the fields until ten or midnight is fun for him! Whatever! It just happened to work out that we were going to be at my parent's house two weekends in a row so I stayed with the kids through the week while Kyle went back to work for a few days in between the weekends. We were able to do a lot while there and so I'll do several posts to document what we did with our vacation at Boulder Resort. ;)
Kyle and I went with my Dad, Marci and Jared to burn the wheat field. My mom stayed to watch the kids which was nice. It was our date "afternoon". Some farmers harvest the wheat then burn the wheat stubble, disk it then plant something in it (my Dad planted buckwheat in his fields). Other farms harvest the wheat, cut the stubble then bale it making straw bales then they disk and plant. Growing up I've helped burn before, but it's been a while so we were excited to do it again.
Before
We went around the edge of the fields and Jared burned away. He was really hot sitting there and got covered with ashes. We laughed at him and then told him how awesome he was sitting on the edge over bumps and all. The fire just consumed the wheat field and worked it's way towards the center of the field.
The fire created a little tornado and it was so cool looking. Then the sun got covered by smoke so it was blood red. Eerie feeling.
Pretty much done. It only took 40 minutes from start to finish to burn 140 acres! Crazy fast! Now I need an after picture because now the field is disked, planted and green with buckwheat plants!
Later that day we went to the Dust Devils baseball game in Tri-Cities. The picture shows all the people who did the dusty dash run. All the kids plus Kevin, Marci and Jared did it. They got a coupon for a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut. yum.
We thought Jared was going to get his mission call on Thursday, but it didn't come. My Dad, Mr. Positive, said "maybe it'll come on Friday". Sure enough it did!!! We were so excited to be there for him to open it. Here he is reading it. He's going to Jaoa Pesseo, Brazil and enters the Brazil MTC on November 21st. He is SO excited and he gets to learn Portuguese. We are happy for him too. We'll miss him lots.
On Sunday we got to celebrate Carter and Marci's birthday a day early with yummy carrot cake and chocolate cake. We even got a visit from my uncle John, cousin Natalie and G&G Wright. Kyle left at night to go back to Everett for work.
On Monday, My Mom, the kids and I went into Tri-Cities (one hour one way! ugh! It's hard to do with kids and dealing with no naps and being gone all day. I'm used the the city life of running errands 10 minutes away and being home for lunch and naps. ;)) We visited with Melanie and her kids then went to see Grandma Great (Arlene) because she hadn't seen Chelsea yet. Chelsea was a little fussy while she was holding her though.
We went to Jeni's to see the kids and my Mom gave Carter his birthday present since it was his birthday. We hung out there and went to IHOP with them for Carter's birthday dinner. That's where he wanted to go and it felt like we were on a stage being watched by everyone in there. I swear they were playing elevator music and you could hear a pin drop. We walk in and kids are talking loud, Lindsey and Hailey were throwing fits and it was chaos. haha!
This was cute of Lindsey kissing on the window with my Mom. My Mom has to wash this window a million times when the kiddos are around, but their dirty hand prints are kind of cute, kind of. :)

That's a lot of fun! I'm so glad that you took time to come by and see me. It was great just being together for that short time. And that is awesome about Jared's mission call. What a great call!
So fun to be there when Jared opened his call!
It's always fun to get away and have extra help at the same time. I bet your mom is having withdrawals!
