Ears and Lips

Kyle went over to help my Dad on the farm and I stayed home with the kids. I almost went with him, but we are going over their for Conference weekend (b/c Jeni is having her baby next Tuesday!) so I figured I'd just stay here. I decided to spoil Kate and buy her a new toy. :) Here she is showing off her new Tinkerbell jewelry set complete with earrings, bracelet, necklace and ring. She loves the earrings. She asked to wear them tomorrow morning after she wakes up. Each time I put them on her (they kept falling off b/c they are clip-on) she would wince in pain and tell me to be careful...yet she wants them on first thing in the morning? Funny. On a side note...she is funny when I try to take her picture. She makes this crazy "stare off into space" look. I have to tell her to just be normal and smile.
Preston's lip is healing well. It already looks a ton better. I think the stiches have dissolved and so now it's just a scab on the outside and small sores still on the inside where he bit through. He's not throwing up anymore and started to perk up and be himself yesterday and today. He actually is eating again and playing good.

He wasn't cooperating when I was trying to take his picture of his lip- he kept running away- so I had to lay him on the kitchen counter to try to get a close-up.

80 is the new 30

My Grandma Helen Gene turned 80 years old! She is lookin' good for turning 80. She is still very active and busy as ever. :) My aunts and uncles threw her a fabulous birthday party in Ellensburg at the church and she had more people at her party than a ward function! But if you know my Grandma then you know she has lots of friends because she is SO friendly. It was a great turnout and she had lots of fun.

The mass amounts of yummy food made by my Mom and aunts. Everything was eaten up so fast the kitchen crew couldn't keep up! :)

Me with my Grandma

The large crowd and there was even more than this!

Jared keeping the kids company watching a movie in a classroom. What a good uncle. I loved how all the kids were nicely sitting on their chairs in a row.

These are some of the girl cousins. Paula is in the back between Sara and Jeni and she lives in N. Carolina so we don't see her as much. It was so nice of her to come out with her 2 boys. Then Kristin is in front next to me and she actually lives right next to Marci.

Me and Grandpa Paul

There was a table with a display of pictures from my Grandma's life. It's neat to see pictures from her life. My aunt Jacquie also put together a scrapbook for my Grandma. She had each family make a page of picture/memories/poems or letters for my Grandma. I wrote a list of memories I remembered about going to Grandma's house and it was fun to take a trip down memory lane and think of everything from when I was little. My Grandma made homemade pop for us. She had this pop maker that put in the fizzy stuff and we all thought it was so cool. We played dress up all the time with her old dresses and clothes. We had easter egg hunts there, ate yummy food at holiday times and I loved all her decorations on the stair banisters around Christmas time. She would always come to our sporting games and birthday dinners. There were many more memories I wrote down and I am lucky to have a Grandma like her!

Update

So thanks for all your well wishes and comments. I went to bed super early last night and it was awesome since I had to work again today. :) Except Preston woke up in the middle of the night coughing and then threw up. He didn't have an appetite today and threw up 3 more times. We don't know if it's the medicine from the sedation or if he caught something. While visiting the ER for 7 hours...many people came in hacking up a lung and wearing masks so who knows if he caught something there! Kyle took Preston to his normal doctor for a check-up today and everything looks good with his lip and so far is healing well.

On other news, Kate is loving preschool. She goes to Miss Kim's preschool 3 days a week for 2 1/2 hours. She comes home with stories of what song they learned or what letter they worked on today. It's fun to see her enthusiasm to learn.

Don't Give Me Any Lip

Last night, Kate and Preston were dancing to primary songs in the family room. Kyle and I were in the kitchen and all of a sudden we hear this crying/screaming. Kyle hurries into the family room and sees Preston on the ground holding his mouth which was bleeding. He had fallen against the entertainment center. I rush him into the kitchen and try to wipe up the blood (there was A LOT!) and I see that he has this huge gash. I tell Kyle we have to go to the hospital because he needs stithces. We run Kate over to Darbi's house (my friend and neighbor) and then head to the hospital. This was around 6pm. We get checked into the Hospital around 6:35 and wait. We check-in with triage and wait. We get moved to another waiting room and wait. We get put into a room and wait. We get moved to another room and wait. All this time we are thinking that it is taking forever and that we better get Kate so Darbi and her husband can go to bed. Kyle goes home to get Kate and brings her back to the hospital and gets back around 9:30pm. Then we waited some more. Thank goodness the kids were pretty good. We ate snacks and Kyle would take Kate on little walks to keep her occupied.
Finally around 11:30pm the doctor starts to numb Preston up. Preston kept biting his lip and screaming (they had him in a papoose thing and we were holding down his legs and head) so they didn't think they could do a good enough job stitching up his lip without him sedated. Another doctor comes in and tells us we'll have to wait another hour because they need to see other people in the ER and get them through and don't want to be rushed trying to get Preston stitched up. What were we supposed to do? We couldn't leave, we had to wait because he needed it fixed. I got emotional once they told me this. It had been a long night. I was telling the doctors that we had been there since 6:45pm and he was only 2 yrs old and how frustrating it has been and how ridiculous the wait has been. They agreed, but really it was retarded. There was no reason we should have had to wait for so long. They didn't triage us at all. They went in order you got there. In fact, at one point the doctor went and stitched up an older man's finger (who came in after we did) while we waited. Can't they have the older man wait so the 2 yr old can get stitched and go home???
At 12:30 the doctors came in and gave Preston shots to put him into conscious sedation. They put 4 stitches in his lip and were happy with how the lip matched up again. The cut was along the lip border. Preston was SO out of it. He was so tired he basically kept sleeping even after the medicine should have worn off. He didn't wake up until an hour after they gave him the meds. Normally, the kids wake up after 30 mins. He was exhausted. They finally discharged us at 1:35am and we got home at 2am. I had to leave for work today at 7:10am...I am tired! The kids took good naps today and Preston seems fine today.
In the car on the way to the hospital.

He was pretty calm for having a gash in his lip.

I don't know why the pictures are turned sideways, but here is a picture of his lip today with the stitches. He has one big fat lip. The cut went all the way through his lip. They just stitched the outer lip, the cuts on the inside will heal on it's own. He's on antibiotics and pain meds.

Yee Haw!

We had a Sabin reunion with just my siblings over Labor Day Weekend. It was a fun filled weekend. My Mom had the theme "Yee Haw" so we did a bunch of cowboy themed activities. We all loved it. My parents do a lot for us as a family. We have good memories from all our activities we do together. I think that's why we want to get together so often.

We started off our reunion by watching Jared's football game in Cle Elum. My grandparents are in the chairs. They came from Ellensburg to watch. We had fun yelling and screaming for Jared which probably embarrassed him. hee hee!

Watching the Ellensburg Parade with the hats my Mom bought the kids. The kids loved it. Kate has never been to a parade before so it was pretty fun for her. She would get frustrated when they threw candy and she didn't get any. She did get some...but she just wasn't quick enough to get some each time someone threw candy out.

My cousins who live there babysat the kids while we all went to the Ellensburg Rodeo! It would have been more fun if we weren't drenched!!! Normally we melt b/c it's so hot, but this time it poured rain most of the time so we were pretty wet and miserable. We made it fun though once we realized we were already drenched and plus it makes for good memories.

Jeff being a nice uncle.

My Mom had these shirts made for our reunion. This was taken after we watched old slides of when Marci, Jeni and I were growing up. We loved to look at slides at my grandparent's house so it's always been a tradition. My Mom had all the old slides scanned and put onto her computer. We had plenty of laughs about awesome mullets (mainly mine!), 80's clothes and a trip down memory lane with our old house and friends. We also got nice family pictures taken this weekend so we are hoping at least one of them turns out. Preston was being a beast during pictures.

Kate hitting our cowboy boot pinata.

The cousins with their loot bags my Mom made them.

My sister-in-law, Sadie, took these pictures and made this collage out of them. I stole them from her blog b/c I thought they were so cute of Kate with my Dad (thanks Sadie!). Kate is always dressing up at my Mom's house. She'll live in dress up clothes most the time we are there visiting. A lot of the dress-up clothes are from when Sara took dance. I also canned 2 boxes of peaches with my Mom and Sadie's help. Gotta love fresh produce b/c we came home with corn on the cob, apples and potatoes all straight from the fields.

First Day of Preschool!!!

Kate started Preschool!!! Her first day was on Wednesday and she LOVED it. It just makes me sad to think she'll go to kindegarten next year already. It's good for her to be in an organized learning setting, but she's my little girl growing up too fast.

She picked out this butterfly shirt to wear the first day.

(I LOVE her jeans. Dee Ann bought them for her and I asked Dee Ann if they had those jeans in my size!!!)

I love her spacey teeth. Hopefully that means there will be less chances of needing braces. ha! She tells me she will get new 'rectangles' soon (aka new teeth!). Funny.

At her desk at preschool.

Preston's Tube Surgery

Preston got tubes put in his ears this morning. It was a very quick procedure (we were in and out in 1 1/2 hrs and the procedure took 10 minutes) and all went well. Preston was crying when they brought us back to him, but he calmed down the second I took him and held him. He just snuggled with me and held his milk. The doctor told us that he had an ear infection still in his right ear and the left ear wasn't cleared up completely either. I guess it's a good thing we got tubes b/c he was treated for an ear infection a couple weeks ago. It must have not cleared up or another ear infection was devloping. I'm just worried how he'll react to us putting wax plugs in his ears when we give him a bath to prevent water from getting inside his ears.
