Preston's Ear Surgery

Preston needed major ear surgery to remove the cholesteatoma from his left ear, repair that ear drum and then put a tube in his right ear drum. The CAT scan he had earlier showed a cholesteatoma in his ear (his left ear was a mess and had lots of issues) so that ENT referred us to an Otologist downtown Seattle at Virginia Mason, Dr. Seth Schwartz. We really liked him and thought he was very thorough in explaining everything to us. We needed to do this surgery or Preston would lose his hearing. We did the surgery on October 23rd. It took forever for all the doctors and anesthesiologists to come in and get him set up. The surgery took an hour and a half. Dr. Schwartz was very happy with the results and said it went better than anticipated so that was awesome to hear. Preston was angry when he came out of anesthesia. He wanted to rip the ear muff thing off his head. It was hard to keep him from doing that. On our way home from the hospital he finally calmed down more and didn't try ripping it off anymore. Poor kid.

Our neighbors, the Wright's, gave Preston this minion when Mark came over to help Kyle give Preston a Priesthood blessing. So nice of them. Preston loves minions and even knows their names.

This is what it looks like a couple days after surgery. We took off the bandage and saw the scars. We go back next week for a follow up and then again in December for a hearing test.

My Mom gave this playdoh to Preston for him to make minions so here's one of them. She came over to watch the kids for the day while Kyle and I went to the hospital with Preston. That was so nice of her to come over. My Grandpa Bill was in the hospital with an infection in his leg so it was a crazy time for my Mom to leave. But Jeni and Kevin were helping my Grandpa and my Mom was going to go visit him when she got home.

Bob the Builder

We went to a Root Beer Tasting party at some friends house and had a good time. I didn't know there were so many different kinds of root beers! We did a taste test of the normal one's which I did horrible at and then tasted some unique one's from all over the world. It was a fun night. These little mugs were funny. Here I am with Natalie Scollick and Robyn Vanderheyden.

Some preschool things I've been doing for Chelsea's co-op I'm a part of. For "D" week we did dog puppets and dinosaurs and fossils with dinosaurs. There are 6 kids in our preschool so each mom teaches for a week at a time. Over the course of the year we teach 6 times. We do it Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9:30-12. Chelsea likes it, but is sometimes naughty and doesn't sit still. She's just 3 so it's good experience for her for Sunbeams and for real preschool next year. I do the preschool with Shannon Wright, Adrienne Peterson, Laura Allred, Kim Asay and Lorane Willyerd.

I have been working on redoing our bedroom. We got a king size bed which means we needed new bedding and it was a domino effect because then we needed new sheets, mattress pad, bed frame and a king size down comforter!!! Yikes. I painted the walls a blue color to match the light blue in the bedding. It's a grey aqua color. Then I made some coral euro pillows for a pop of color. We needed night stands so I found this Ikea hack on Pinterest and fell in love. I convinced Kyle to help me and got to work. It was a lot of work, but I love how they turned out. They were much cheaper than buying two similar night stands like these. So I bought those pine plain ones on the left then added trim, molding and a bigger top then painted them a white color to match our new white Ikea dressers. We gave our old dresser and night stand to Preston. I found new lamps at Walmart and voila they are done! Now to make a bench for the foot of the bed and decorate the walls. :)

Circus

We went to the Circus with the Grossarth's and Owen's. We got there early and could go down to the floor and see the animals behind the curtain and see some extra quick shows. They still had elephants in their show, but we heard they are phasing them out.

Happy 8th Birthday Preston!

Happy 8th Birthday Preston!!!
He loves playing Angry Birds Go on the ipad and so we did an angry birds themed party. He invited some friends from Church and School and everyone came! He loved playing with everyone as they wrestled and ran through the house. Boys are loud! I was glad he had fun though. It was cute to see him interact with his friends from school.

He has recently started loving Minecraft so he was pretty excited for this

He requested Subway for his lunch at school. I was going to bring treats in, but his teacher said they don't do treats and instead they share their favorite book. So Preston took a book to read to the class. I rolled my eyes because how lame they don't do treats for their birthdays.

When we decided on angry bird cupcakes Kate told me that Nerdy Nummies has an idea online. I checked it out and loved them. I made them even easier than how she made them and Preston loved them.

L-R: Paulos, Jack Nedry in back, Preston, Logan, Jackson Grossarth, Ethan Vanegas, Dallin Owens, Carson Bigelow behind him and Scott Bigelow.

Preston got baptized! Lots of family came to support him and we are so proud of him wanting to get baptized. I took some pictures with my Mom's fancy camera lens and Sara made this cute baptism invitation. She did awesome! We had a luncheon afterwards at our house for family. We served taco soup and chicken noodle soup with corn bread, rolls, chips and fixings. I had made carrot cake bars and cookie cake bars for dessert. It was fun to visit and have family visit.

Preston's primary teachers are good to him. They are very supportive. They are Julia and Bondy Allen.

All the cousins sang "Heavenly Father Loves Me" or as we know it Whenever I hear. :)

I'm glad Zane and Landon played with the trains because they hardly get used anymore.

Melanie got this picture before they left. Chelsea outside with no shoes riding her bike and she's cross eyed. That about sums her up. Makes me laugh.
