Well... this isn't good news at all, but it's reality for a lot of people right now. Kyle got laid off from his job on Monday! Horrible, I know. He came home around 11am on Monday and I was just thinking he was coming home for an early lunch so when he walked in and said he was laid off I thought he was kidding. I finally believed him when he showed me the paperwork stuff they gave him. I was pretty devastated and had my fair share of crying and being emotional for the next couple of hours. Kyle had a really good attitude about it. He kept telling me it will work out and be fine. His main concern was health insurance for the kids since our insurance was now ending at the end of January. He even handled it well when they told him. When they told him he said, "well, it's no one's fault." I would have been more upset, but then again it's really not their fault, it's the housing market. He even made it past several lay-offs over the last 15 months at his work. (He worked for a home builder as a project manager.) They even paid him a compliment by saying they would like to hire him back when the market turns around, but they know he will be taken b/c he's smart and a good guy. Hmpf. He better be hired by someone else by then. :) There's another guy in our ward that is out of work and watches his two kids and I joked that Kyle and him can start a daddy daycare or do playdates together. Ha! Gotta have some humor in this mess, right?
So now I am the sugar mama. I'm only working 2x/month right now, but today the dentist's wife, who is a hygienist in the office, offered to give me her 4 days that she was scheduled to work next month! She is happy to have a break, but that was so nice of her. I will probably look into temp hygiene work as well. Thank goodness for my education!!! The Church encourages us to get an education and this is exactly why- to get through times like this.
We will get through this and we just have to have faith that all will work out fine. It's the unknown that is scary and always wondering "how long will it take to get a job?" If we knew that answer I think we'd enjoy Kyle's time off a bit more. Maybe take a road trip... do lots of fun things... you know, the stuff you do with time off. :)

Annalise Plastaid had a little baby shower at my house tonight and told me the bad news. So I had to come check your blog to find the scoop. I am so sorry, it makes me sick to my stomach. I am so glad that you are able to help your family pull through. This is a prime example of why we women should have educations. You will be in our prayers and thoughts. Good luck with the temp agency. My experience was good- let me know if you need any advice or anything.
Oh Heidi, I'm so glad you wrote this post. I teared up thinking about all the stress and then really teared up when realizing how blessed we can be through trials. Your education, the Dr's wife wanting a break, etc. We are not forgotten though our trials. And laughter can be the best medicine! I laughed out loud when you mentioned the 'daddy daycare'. Too funny! And the sugar mama, Raaaarrrrr!!!
You guys are in out prayers. Even the kids prayed for you last night because they heard me talking on the phone. So many on your side has to feel good. I too have faith it will work out!!
Love you guys so much!!
I love you all and know that things will work out for the best. Thank goodness both of you have an education and something more to offer than the man on the street. Love your post and your attitude. I found BAD things on one of the employee's computer today and so It has really been a strssful day. She may lose her job over something so stupid. Didn't ever want to go to this place. I'm trying to find the humor but it's just not working..... grrrrrr
So sorry Heidi! I know a lot of people who worry about their jobs - it is reality! I know you'll be ok, hang in there!
Hey, I found your blog. sorry to hear about kyle getting laid off. I know exactly how you feel. Anderson has been out of work for over a year. He also decided to take up acting. I wish you the best and I know things will work out for all of us soon!
It is such a tough time for so many people, but I was so saddened when I heard that this has happened to someone I know. We will keep your family in our prayers. And thank goodness for having an education and a solid profession to fall back on these tough times. Thanks for posting your positive thoughts during such a difficult time.
On a side note, Kyle did an awesome job teaching his first Gospel Doctrine lesson last week. I had that calling for over three years and it was one of my most challenging. It's an intimidating call but he seems to be handling it quite well!
So sorry to hear of the news about Kyle's job. You are both wonderful people and the Lord will comfort and strenghten you. You are in my prayers!
We'll keep you guys in our prayers also. I am so glad you have your education to fall back on when needed. You are amazing, and I know you guys will be blessed!

Ah man! We are in the same boat with Jared in the construction industry as well. He hasn't been laid off yet but the next few months will tell. These are crazy times for sure, but here's hoping 2009 brings some recovery and relief!! Hang in there. I just read Elder Wirthlin's talk last night..."Come what may and love it." I guess in times like these we have to learn to laugh and exercise the faith.....thanks for being such a good example of both!
No fun!!! We have been thinking about you and all the worry and stress you have to deal with! We are so sorry! That is sooo nice of the Dr.'s wife to give you her time next month! You are being blessed through this!
I loved your idea of a daddy day care! :-) There is nothing like laughter/humor to help make things better. I think of that part in Mary Poppins when they have to think of happy things to keep themselves up, and sad to bring them back down. It is laughter and happy things that keep us 'up'!
Hang in there! You are in our thoughts and prayers!
I thought this was cute- when you had called Jared had the idea that you could go and live with them and he said how fun that would be! :-)
Heidi-Since Melanie told me about this you guys have been on my mind and in my prayers. What an amazing time for you to be able to help out your family. You seem like you have a fairly good attitude about things, though Im sure thats not east to do. Im sure Kyle will find something and maybe it can be on this side of the mountains. Hang in there and we will keep you guys in our prayers.
Oh, I'm so sorry. That is the worst feeling. I'm sure everything will work out for you soon. It is such a blessing that you also have something to fall back on. Good luck with your job search.
WOW! We don't realize how bad things are until they really affect us in something like your situation. Yes, thank goodness for your education and job. It is hard right at the beginning to picture things working out, but they do down the road. Hang in there. I know you'll find something to learn in all of this. You're always so positive.
Good luck to you guys. Heidi, let me know if Kyle is busy and you need help with your kids while you try to pick up more shifts at work. And I will NOT accept payment from you!
I hope he can find something soon, even if it isn't his dream job, just to get through these tough times. At least he can rest assured that it wasn't something he did or didn't do, it's just something that couldn't have been avoided in this terrible housing market. I love his attitude. It's nice to have a spouse who can boost your spirits by being optimistic.
We've been there! And it's definitly not any fun. Try to enjoy him at home though and know we're all praying for you! It's my biggest regret that I never finished college. You're right, it's so important! Good luck on the job hunt Kyle, we're thinking of you!
Kylie and Heidi...I am sooo sorry! Dangit things are hard right now! I work for Discover Card (in collections) and I hear 100 people a day in the same situation, but the wife has nothing to fall back on. Thank heavens because we have the gospel it is so much easier to handle these "bumps" in the road, and I think Heavenly Father watches out for his faithful. We will keep you in our prayers too! Enjoy your time together...hopefully it will be brief!
Oh bummer. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help. You guys are amazing.
We are so sorry about your bad news! You are so great Heidi, you have such a good attitude. Tell Kyle to move here and do a daddy day care and he can have 2 waiting on his list! :) Good Luck!
Good thing you received a fabulous education. Thank Paul Lauizer (sp?) even more for your education. hee.hee. :) For reals though, live it up -- Kyle will appreciate you even more. Just think: when the dust settles and he has a permanent job and such, he will so be fine w/ you shopping all the time!!! ha! :)
We all have trials and this is one that you guys can easily overcome. All you have to do is 1.) sell your place, 2.) Kyle find a job in Puyallup and 3.) find a fabulous home in Puyallup area. Simply as that. ;)
p.s. 19 comments? I'm jealous! You have way too many blog friends. Can I have some? ;)
Oh, that's horrible! I'm so sorry! How blessed you are to have your education!
I cracked up over the daddy daycare! Sounds like some fun times for Kyle!
Oh dear! I am so sorry that you guys are in this situation. It is a very good thing you have the education and opportunity to work, for a fall back position until Kyle can find something else. I'll be praying for you guys!!
I'm sorry for the hard times, Heidi. Travis wasn't exactly laid off, but his hours were cut down to TEN. which basically means he's been looking for a job for the past 3 months. NO such luck, but gratefully I still have my job. I'm glad for you that you have something too. It's hard to be a mom and work - but Heavenly Father helps us, right? :) I need to be better about reading and calling. I'll keep you in my prayers. love ya!
Oh, Heidi! I am so sorry! Money woes are not fun to deal with. I am impressed with how well you and Kyle are both taking it. That is a blessing in and of itself.
We will keep your family in our prayers!
Oh, Heidi, I had no idea--I'm so sorry.
Kyle's boss is right--he is smart and a great worker, so I'm sure the Lord will bless him with another job soon.
Good luck and if we can do anything to help, please let us know!
